Automotive Starters
They are a
dime a dozen. Every Tom, Dick &
Harry sells them, and for good reason.
They just plain fail at the most inconvenient time. If you shop around you can get one for free
(well almost). Rather than play, follow
the leader, like the rest of the starter suppliers, we decided to deal with the
problem of failure head on. Like the
rest of our custom solutions, we analyzed the most common failure prone units
for the reason of the failures and came up with solutions to eliminate them. Do
your self a failure. Starters don’t fail
on their own.
They are usually brought on by a chain of events that lead to their
failure. Low battery voltage is one of
the most common reasons. You see starters need power to make then work. In electrical terms power is referred to as
“watts”. Watts are a combination of the
voltage available and the amperage that is drawn. So as an example, a starter will require 3200
watts of power to provide the required force to crank over your engine. The 3200 watts is 250AMPs of power at
12.8Volts. Now if your battery charge is
low, either from the cold weather or just the fact that it is old, that 3200
watts are still needed by the starter.
The battery is now at 11.8Volts, it will now take 271AMPs, to turn your
motor over
The Japanese import units are
mainly bulletproof and usually require regular maintenance. They need the bearings/bushings re-packed
with grease (we use a special one), brushes replaced and solenoid plunger and
contacts. If you do that every 100,000
miles they will virtually last forever.
Many customers will ask,
instead of overhauling the old one, why don’t I just
get a re-manufactured one. That is a
valid question and the answer is; you don’t know what you are getting. Sure they come with a warranty, but replacing
that starter is not without cost to you.
Think about the inconvenience of being stranded some where, your wife,
your kids, some ugly weather evening, having to call a tow truck, buying a new
battery, you get the point. With a
remanufactured unit, you end up with a mis-mash of
parts from literally thousands of starters.
Wouldn’t it make more sense to rebuild a know piece rather than
rebuilding someone else’s headache.
Especially if the unit has already provided 1000’s of trouble free
miles.
The new units come with a
full year warranty, but in reality should probably outlast the car. We have had a .004% failure rate on these new
units, many with 100’s of thousands of miles on them. And they are made in
2005 marks our 20th year in
business, you don’t last 20 years in many businesses without learning a few
things. And that is to provide our valued customers with quality products at a
fair price, just like we expect from our suppliers.
Give us a call. We look forward to helping you solve your
automotive electrical problems once and for all, or at least we can talk about
the NHL hockey season if nothing else.
